The Flats at CityLine Sunnyvale, a 198-unit luxury apartment property, has started leasing.

The three-building apartment complex is part of the CityLine Sunnyvale mixed-use transit-oriented development from STC Venture in downtown Sunnyvale that started development again in 2016 after stalling during the recession.

The pedestrian-oriented district will include homes, a public plaza, shopping and entertainment, and office space on 36 acres.

As part of Phase 1, a two-story building that will house Whole Foods Market and AMC Theatres is under construction and planned to open in 2019. Also underway are $20M in public improvements.

STC Venture is a joint venture between Sares Regis Group of Northern California and Hunter Properties.

The Flats are the first completed apartments within the multiphase project. Across the three buildings, the apartments are above about 75K SF of retail, which is expected to be occupied in 2019.

“The completion of The Flats marks a milestone for the CityLine Sunnyvale project, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to deliver these apartments to activate downtown and provide new homes near jobs and transit,” said David Hopkins, chief operating officer at Sares Regis Group of Northern California.

The apartment community is near Sunnyvale's Caltrain station.

He said the apartments would be a good choice for workers and young families.

Units at The Flats, which include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, start at $3,910 for a one-bedroom apartment and $4,650 for a two-bedroom apartment. Of the units offered, 25 will be affordable.

The community has a fitness center and yoga studio, an indoor/outdoor children's play area, a dog spa, and five outdoor courtyards with kitchens, barbecues, fireplaces and dining areas.

STC Venture is also working on the design phase of an additional 94 units with 75 apartments and 19 three-bedroom townhomes.
