Google’s latest plan may help attract more workers to the Bay Area. The tech giant said it will build 300 units of modular housing at its Bay View campus at Moffett Field in Mountain View, according to the Mercury News. This temporary housing would be used to attract workers to the Bay Area, where rents continue to rise. The tech giant has previously said it is easier to hire people in Seattle than the Bay Area.
The company will buy the 300 modular units from Vallejo-based Factory OS for $25M to $30M. Modular construction can reduce Bay Area construction costs by 20% to 50%, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The Bay View project is expected to include three office buildings totaling 600K SF. A completion date for this project, which has hit several delays, has yet to be determined. Google also has plans for a massive campus in San Jose and another campus in Mountain View.
