Silicon Valley is turning its attention to outer space. Nearly a dozen startups focused on everything from mining asteroids to manufacturing items in space have clustered in places like Mountain View’s Moffett Field. Investor interest has risen considerably, reports the San Jose Mercury News. VC firms poured $1.8B into the scene in 2015. Investments by established companies such as Google and Airbus also underscored the potential of these companies. Moffett Field is a natural home for space companies as it hosts NASA’s Ames Research Center and Google’s aircraft hangars. [SJMN]
