California College of the Arts started construction on its next student housing project in April. The 228-bed four-story building at 75 Arkansas St. will take about 16 months to build and is expected to be ready for students by fall 2018. CCA trustee Simon Blattner is developing the project designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects. The project is managed by Equity Community Builders.

The 48-foot-tall building will offer 30 units — 27 four-bedroom units and three two-bedroom units — and 7,400 SF of ground-floor retail, which will likely be a deli with prepackaged food, according to Potrero View. A ground-floor multipurpose room will be open to the community as well.

The private college also proposed a five-story building with up to 600 beds at 188 Hooper St. in 2016 with an expected completion date of 2019. CCA previously opened Panoramic Residencies, a 12-story student housing facility with a capacity of up to 200 students, in 2015.

The college is undergoing a massive expansion to bring its Oakland and San Francisco campuses together on one site. The project will be designed by Studio Gang.

Find out more about CCA’s plans to build 1,000 beds for student housing by 2025 from CCA director of research and planning David Meckel during Bisnow’s upcoming student housing event June 21.
