Shorenstein Properties continues to score high when it comes to sustainability, earning the highest rating for the second year in a row.
The private real estate investment firm earned a Green Star rating in 2014 and 2015 from the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark, an industry-driven standard for investment portfolios. EVP Stan Roulades says Shorenstein takes its responsibility as stewards of its buildings and the broader environment very seriously, calling sustainability a "collective obligation."
Based on the scores, Shorenstein ranks second out of 23 major investors with active ownership in the US office sector and 14th out of 155 North American investors across all commercial real estate sectors. Shorenstein was 27th out of 145 companies in the global office sector. The company had an overall score of 78 out of 100, compared to a peer group average of 59.
In 2015, the company had 31 LEED-Certified buildings (with 13M SF at certified Gold), including San Francisco's Russ Building (shown) and an average Energy Star score of 82 across its portfolio.
