IBM has announced plans to open an office for Watson, its artificial intelligence unit, in San Francisco in 2016. The company plans to employ several hundred workers at the new site.
Watson is currently headquartered in Manhattan and casts a wide net with 350 company partners using it. Close to 70,000 software developers use it in some capacity, and there are around 50 services associated with the technology on the market.
The new Bay Area home will be dubbed “Watson West.” No details were announced on where the offices will be located, but the company already has a substantial presence on Howard Street. [SFBJ]
