Hanover Pitching Broadway Valdez Mixed-Use

The Hanover Co wants to add a seven-story residential mixed-use project in Oakland's Broadway Valdez district.

The plan would redevelop a parcel at Broadway and 27th Street and could include 255 apartment units and more than 37k SF of retail above below-grade parking, according to The Registry. Oakland is seeking more pedestrian-oriented retail in the district, which is just north of downtown Oakland, near Lake Merritt and currently dominated by car dealerships and surface parking.

The Broadway Valdez District Specific Plan helps pave the way for new development in the area. Lakeshore Partners is pursuing a mixed-use residential and retail tower in the district.

Hanover's project is proposed for 1.1 acres where a parking lot and the closed Biff's Coffee Shop now sit (above). The city's planning commission was scheduled to decide on the application last night. [TR]
