| Fun fact: Manhattan higher education accounts for 72M SF, 16% of the entire borough's office market—that's 41 Empire State Buildings combined. Last week, over 175 gathered at Shearman & Sterling's offices for a Cassidy Turley-sponsored ULI New York event to hear university expansion plans and the impact on the city. Fordham's Lincoln Center expansion will begin next year, and will include a new law school and new 1,500-bed dormitory—all LEED certified. NYU's looking beyond Greenwich Village in places like Brooklyn and Governors Island, and projects 6M additional SF over the next 25 years, split evenly between academic and residential space. Columbia's Manhattanville project will include clean construction efforts, and the expansion will be built to LEED Silver, at minimum.
