The Port of San Diego has initiated an Interactive Kiosk Program to enhance visitors’ waterfront experience. Port commissioners selected IKE Smart City to fabricate, install, operate and maintain a portfolio of 30 interactive kiosks, directing staff to negotiate a 10-year contract with the company, reports Clean Tech San Diego, which supports the program. The kiosk program requires no public investment, as IKE Smart City will privately finance the kiosks with revenue generated by advertising and sponsors.

“This is a great example of how our port is working to make the waterfront an exciting and dynamic place to visit,” Port Chairman Robert “Dukie” Valderrama said. “Interactive kiosks along the San Diego waterfront will encourage exploration and discovery of attractions, special events, restaurants and entertainment, while also serving as meeting points.”

The interactive kiosks, which feature touch screens, will provide visitors directions, information about public transit and ride-sharing, bike services, restaurants and attractions, points of interest and local events. They will also provide weather updates, public service announcements and education about the port. The kiosks will be installed in the Centre City/Embarcadero area along Harbor Drive, between Laurel Street and the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.
