NFL owners met for several hours yesterday at a hotel near Dallas. The outcome was an agreement to give San Diego a second chance to keep the Chargers in San Diego. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the owners agreed to continue to work with San Diego, but said it is up to city officials to come up with a firm, actionable plan that the league and Chargers believe has a chance for success. Goodall and NFL owners prefer the Chargers remain in San Diego, but they said the city hasn’t been playing ball. Houston Texans owner Bob McNair told the San Diego Union-Tribune the owners are waiting to see if the city will come up with something, but remains skeptical. McNair’s statement was the most hopeful among owners at the gathering. Chargers chairman Dean Spanos reiterated his former statement that he will not make a decision whether to stay or go until after New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, the owners formally ratified the final lease agreement the Chargers and Rams had principally agreed to in January. The agreement would make the Chargers a revenue-sharing tenant at the new Inglewood stadium when it opens in 2019 if the Chargers decide to move to Los Angeles.
