High Street Residential, a subsidiary of Trammell Crow Co., and Northwestern Mutual have started work on Glasshouse, a five-story, mixed-use building with 319 apartments in Downtown Pittsburgh.

The property will including studio, one- and two-bedroom units ranging from 665 SF to 1,200 SF, ground-floor restaurant and retail space, and 335 indoor parking spaces.

Glasshouse is on the site of Pittsburgh’s historic glassmaking factories on the Monongahela River, overlooking Pittsburgh’s Golden Triangle. The project will be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2019.

The property is directly adjacent to the Station Square mixed-use development, a $100M historic conversion of railroad warehouses, passenger terminals and office buildings into an office, retail and entertainment complex.

Residents will have pedestrian access to restaurants, hotel and office space at Station Square as well as the new Highmark Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds professional soccer team.

Glasshouse also counts as a transit-oriented development, since it has access to the Station Square light rail station. The property is near the beginning of the Great Allegheny Passage, a walking, running and biking trail system that, with the C&O Canal, forms a continuous link between Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.

Rycon Construction is the general contractor and Hord Coplan Macht is the architect and landscape architect.
