Despite the historical preservation fight from the neighborhood, Toll Brothers is one step closer to building an apartment tower on Jewelers Row.
The Department of Licensing & Inspections has granted permission for Toll Brothers to unify six lots — 702, 704, 706-08, 710 and 712-14 Sansom St., plus 128 South Seventh St. — into one, and demolish all existing buildings except for 712-14 Sansom, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The permit on L&I's website indicates Toll Brothers' newest plan is for a 24-story, 85-unit high-rise with one retail storefront on the ground floor facing Sansom Street. It is a middle ground between the original 16-floor proposal and the 29-floor revision that Mayor Jim Kenney spoke against, and which prompted further review from L&I.
Though the project still must go through the non-binding Civic Design Review process, its current iteration would include roof decks on the second, third, fourth, 15th, 22nd and 24th floors of the building.
