The corner of South Broad Street and Washington Avenue is all of a sudden a hub of development activity, with the announcement of a new proposal for a mixed-use project on Tuesday.
The development, to be called Lincoln Square, is planned to contain 74k SF of retail, along with an eight-story, 356-unit apartment building. 360 parking spaces are also part of the plan, proposed by Alterra Property Group and MIS Capital for a projected $100M, according to Curbed.
Currently, the property at 1000-20 S Broad is a 3.36-acre empty lot containing a historic rail shed, preserved because it was a stop on the rail tour Abraham Lincoln's body took across the country. Plans are in place to preserve the rail shed—which gave the project its Lincoln Square name—while repurposing it for retail.
The proposed development is across the street from another project in the works, a 34-story, mixed-use complex by Bart Blatstein that has been held up in planning and design meetings for months. This smaller project, says Steve Gendler of MIS, has been met with "essentially no resistance from the community." [Curbed]
