Niners New Digs

San Francisco residents have been rooting for a new Niners stadium for decades. So it's fitting that lifelong fan and Clark Pacific co-owner Bob Clark announced this week that his company has been awarded a contract to furnish precast concrete for the new home in Santa Clara.
The projected move-in is the 2014 season; it's their first new stadium since the Niners moved into Candlestick Park in 1971. The $1.2B, 68,500-seat stadium is a joint project by Turner Construction and Devcon Construction, which breaks ground in October, but the precast concrete manufacturing has already begun. Over 2,000 precast components will be installed. That includes treads, risers, and steps for seating as well as stadium walls.

The biggest challenge for Clark Pacific: the “very short window to get the job into production,” Bob tells us. (His favorite Niners moment was attending the Joe Montana-Dan Marino showdown in Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium.) Clark Pacific has 75 in-house engineers and is hiring more in the coming months to accommodate the size and “high-speed requirement.” (It’s a six-month job they have to complete in three months.) They’ve also expanded their manufacturing plant, recently approved to go from 90 acres to 143.
How do the brothers Clark break down their workload? Clark Pacific co-owner Don Clark brings work in the door and Bob (with his hard hat on) gets it done. But the bros aren’t just partners with Clark Pacific, they’re also workout buddies. They started the challenging CrossFit exercise program two years ago and enjoyed it so much they brought the program to the office 18 months ago. A personal trainer comes in three times a week to work with the 40 employees. Bob and Don also own Elevation Ten Winery in Clarksburg Wine Country, which features 12 distinct wines. We suspect they're good at crushing grapes.
