Pedestrian Mall Opens Monday Alongside MSG

A pedestrian mall with tables and chairs opens alongside “The World’s Most Famous Arena” on Monday. The mall begins on Seventh Avenue and winds down the block to Madison Square Garden’s loading docks. It's expected to quickly become a popular destination for al fresco dining, fitness workshops and performances. Current plans call for it to be open through Oct. 11, when a decision will be made on whether to make it permanent, according to the New York Post. The area around 33rd Street sees fewer drivers than an average crosstown street during peak weekday hours but attracts a substantial amount of pedestrian traffic. [NYP]
