Bjarke Ingels Group, the eponymous architecture firm founded by the famed Danish architect, is moving to 45 Main St. in Dumbo, Brooklyn, from its current office at RXR Realty's 61 Broadway in Downtown Manhattan.
The 50K SF office the architecture and design firm will occupy was previously filled by West Elm, according to a release from Two Trees Management, the owner of 45 Main St. The lease is for 10 years.
"The visual excitement and physical proximity to downtown Manhattan, combined with Dumbo's artistic spirit and access to public space," Bjarke Ingels said in a release, "feels like our native Copenhagen, making it as 'Scandimerican' as any place I can think of."
Two Trees created a new roof deck, designed by Highline visionary James Corner Field Operations, which was a major draw for BIG. Although the rent in the deal was not disclosed, average rent in the building goes for about $42/SF.
Bjarke Ingels Group has more than 200 people working in its New York office. The firm is the second major tenant to move from Manhattan to Dumbo in a month, after education firm 2U Inc. announced its move from Chelsea Piers to 55 Prospect St. in Dumbo Heights, which is owned by Kushner, LIVWRK and RFR.
