A condominium on the Upper West Side can remove the Trump name from the building's exterior and branding, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge ruled Thursday.
Residents at 200 Riverside Blvd., which is branded as Trump Place, took action to remove the Trump name from the facade by suing President Donald Trump’s company, DJT Holdings, the New York Post reports.
Some of the residents were worried that the Trump connection at the building caused a security risk, but lawyers for DJT had argued the removal was a breach of a 20-year licensing agreement.
“The court declines to accept the defendant’s assertion that the parties are required to continue the use of the identification ‘Trump’ in perpetuity,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Ellen Bransten said, according to the Post.
However, the company can still sue the board of 200 Riverside Blvd. if the name is removed without approval from a majority of the residents.
Other buildings along Riverside Boulevard removed the Trump name last year. Earlier this year, the majority owner of Trump International Hotel and Tower in Panama City received permission from court officials to remove the Trump name from the property and end its management agreement with The Trump Organization.
