Forest City Ratner has notified the NYS Department of Labor that it may lay off 220 employees within 90 days. The potential layoffs will come from its newly formed modular division, which is wrapping up the 32-story B2 modular tower at 461 Dean St (above), slated to be the tallest modular building in the world.
B2 is being constructed out of modules assembled at a factory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Forest City Ratner has suggested it would keep the factory running after B2's completion, according to The Real Deal.
While there are no more modular projects in the pipeline for mega-development Pacific Park, in which the building resides, the factory was to serve other developers. However, no outside projects have materialized, putting construction workers' jobs on the line. [TRD]
