Before "craft beer" was even a term, North Brooklyn was one of America’s brewing capitals. Nowadays, a growing list of former breweries are going multifamily. None of the area’s original stock of breweries still pump out suds, but two of the sites will soon be reincarnated as housing. The Schaefer warehouses on Kent Avenue are in demolition to make way for three glass towers totaling 856 units being developed by Eliot Spitzer. Other brews-to-views residential projects in the area include the Rabsky Group’s 370-unit redevelopment of the Rheingold brewery in Bushwick (rendered above). The former William Ulmer factory at the corner of Belvidere and Beaver streets—the only landmarked brewery in the city—is also on the market for $14M. [NYT]
