With the fate of South Street Seaport hanging in the balance, Howard Hughes Corp and its fans are making one last effort to quell opposition to the $425M project before it goes to official review, The New York Post reported.

The developer is putting its best foot forward Wednesday night to win over skeptics opposed to the overhaul--particularly Shop Architechts' 42-story tower --planned for Pier 17 on the historic East River waterfront (rendered below), the media outlet reported. (Snapped, Howard Hughes senior EVP Chris Curry, right, with GB Lodging's Allen Gross.) The proposal will then be submitted to a seven-month land-use review prior to a City Council vote.

And Hughes isn’t going it alone. Monday night a faction of financial district residents going by Friends of the Seaport championed the project at a town hall meeting, stressing the need for revitalization--and their lack of ties to the developer Curbed reported.
