The New York City Economic Development Corp and the MTA have put out a request for proposals to develop a 58k SF lot above a rail yard in Long Island City.
The site, at Jackson Avenue and 21st Street, is being used by the Long Island Railroad for storage, and the city owns the air rights associated with it, according to DNAinfo.
The project would need to be built above the rail yard, similarly to Hudson Yards on Manhattan's far west side.
The immediate area has seen a flurry of residential and hotel development, including several towers in the pipeline that will top out at over 700 feet tall.
The RFP seeks a developer to build housing for people across a range of incomes and a community facility, along with retail space and open space. Proposals are due by April 21. [DNA]
