The City of New York is committing $136M to help create what it is calling a “Made in New York” campus at Bush Terminal, near Industry City on the Sunset Park waterfront in western Brooklyn.

The facility, covering two existing buildings to be renovated and one that will be newly constructed, will emphasize garment manufacturing as well as film and TV production and support more than 1,500 jobs, according to the city.

In total, it will add up to 300k SF of commercial space and include utility upgrades and pedestrian-friendly changes to the streetscape. Film production studios and spaces for emerging fields like virtual reality would take up 100k SF, while 200k SF would be broken down into spaces ranging from 2k SF to 20k SF for 25 to 35 garment industry tenants in a new garment manufacturing hub.

It is part of a pledge by Mayor Bill de Blasio to add 100,000 well-paying jobs over the next decade. He announced the project at his State of the City speech this week.

The new initiative is the latest addition to the 36-acre Bush Terminal complex, which spans 1.4M SF over a total of 11 buildings. The new “Made in New York” campus is expected to open in 2020.
