Long Island City could soon add another hotel to its vast supply.
Developer Dun Zhang has filed plans with the Department of Buildings for a 385-room hotel on 10th Street. The 100K SF building at 37-10 10th St. will take the place of an industrial building, The Real Deal reports. Gene Kaufman is listed as the architect of record.
If the plans come to fruition, Zhang’s hotel may face some stiff competition for guests.
Long Island City has experienced something of a development boom in recent years. Hotel developers are flocking to the area: Between 2010 and 2017, developers planned a total of 45 hotels for LIC. Japan’s Toyoko Inn, for example, is planning a 50-story hotel on Jackson Avenue.
Chinese investors played a large role investing in the domestic hotel industry in recent years, but that investment dropped significantly last year. Speakers at a recent Bisnow hospitality event said hotel investment has become increasingly diversified, with German and Middle Eastern backers stepping into the void left by the Chinese.
