A hotel company for "digital nomads" is coming to New York, not far from where one of its investors launched a global, multibillion-dollar real estate company.
Selina, a hybrid of hostel-style accommodations and coworking facilities aimed at young people who work remotely, is opening at 138 Bowery, signing a full-building, 63K SF lease for the property, The Real Deal reports.
The deal with developer Emmut Properties will be Selina's first in New York, bringing the Latin American brand to the backyard of one of its investors, WeWork co-founder and CEO Adam Neumann. The first Selina in New York, which will have 90 rooms, 2K SF of coworking and 2K SF of retail, will be about five blocks from WeWork's first location at 154 Grand St. in SoHo.
Selina President Yoav Gery told TRD the SoHo property, leased for 20 years, will be the company's flagship location and that he hopes to expand more into the city. Selina plans to open its first U.S. property in Miami in February after expanding to 25 locations in Central and South America.
CORRECTION, DEC. 6, 3:40 P.M. ET: Selina's first U.S. location in Miami is expected to open in February, the company says, not September, which it had expected in its initial announcement this summer.
