| While you’re still trying to catch your breath from the last story, here’s some neat public artwork that was unveiled late last week at the Christie’s Sculpture Garden at 535 Madison Ave: sculptor Jonathan Prince’s Southern Remnant and Bore Block, which explores the way we perceive metal and the way we believe it should behave. (He calls the technique “tearing steel.”) The project was initiated by Cynthia-Reeves Projects and will be on display until March 30. Other artists who’ve had worked displayed at the Park Tower Group-owned building include François-Xavier Lalanne and Claude Lalanne, Robert Indiana, Ronald Bladen, and Alexander Calder. |
| And if you take a stroll through Times Square, you may seeBIG♥NYC, a 10-foot tall glowing heart sculpture in Duffy Square consisting of 400 transparent, LED-lit acrylic tubes donated by Austrian lighting company Zumtobel. The tubes refract the lights of Times Square, creating cluster of lights around the heart and making it appear to pulsate as the tubes sway in the wind. It’s also interactive—when people touch a heart-shaped sensor, the heart glows brighter and beats faster. Over the past four years, The Times Square Alliance has hosted an annual public art sculpture to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and BIG♥NYC will be on display until February 29. |
