The non-profit was founded in ’01 in memory of non-smoker Joan Scarangello, sister of CB’s Mary Ann Tighe and Thornton Tomasetti’s Thomas Scarangello, and sister-in-law of Great Ink Communications’ Roxanne Donovan. The charity is the leading source of venture capital for new lung cancer research. The night was emceed by ABC News vet Bill Ritter and co-chaired by NBC anchors Tom Brokaw and Brian Williams (Joan was a head writer for “NBC Nightly News”). Delbert McClinton performed, and a silent auction included one year of rent-free living at 95 Wall Street, donated by The Moinian Group, and having the NFL’s Levon Kirkland coach your child at the Jets Training Center. (Levon’s wife, Keisha, is a lung cancer survivor, and provided words of inspiration via video.) |

Raymond is part of Elliot’s Legacy in memory of his father, who passed away from lung cancer at 56. (Elliot’s Legacy holds an annual Kites for the Cure event over the summer.) Dr. Ladanyi said that lung cancer is an exciting area of research, being able to bring the fruits of your efforts to patients. At least two dozen survivors were in attendance last night—here’s to all of them. |
