And with the international Earth Hour only 11 days away, we took the opportunity to stop by Grubb & Ellis Management Services portfolio manager Angelo Grima’s office yesterday to find out more about the World Wildlife Federation’s initiative, which has the full backing of BOMA International this year. |
| Angelo, BOMA/NY’s president, shows us the simple task we need to do on March 28 at 8:30 p.m.—turn off all non-essential lighting for a full hour. TheEmpire State Building, CitiGroup Center, Time Warner Center, the Grand Hyatt, and Silverstein’s and Monday Properties’ buildings, among others, are slated to go dark, as are other buildings around the world—representing 700 cities in 78 countries. BOMA/NY is appealing to building owners and tenants to join the initiative (register here). So far, it’s receiving strong support from the community, he says. |

Green is an integral part of the industry, and Angelo says that BOMA is promoting it with both the public and private sectors. It’s partnering with the U.S. Green Building Council, among other sustainable groups, to further promote green practices, which is both good business sense and positive for the environment. It recently held its Energy Action Day at the New York Hilton, which included keynotes by Mayor Mike and PANY/NJ’s Christopher Ward. |
