The Hudson River Park Trust, which operates Pier 26, has chosen Michael Dorf, owner of City Winery in Hudson Square, to operate the new restaurant on the east side of the pier. City Vineyard will be the largest restaurant on a redeveloped Hudson River pier, with 1,600 SF of indoor dining, casual dining on the terrace and roof, and seating for 350. Unlike City Winery, City Vineyard will not have a performance space but will feature a broader selection of food and wine, the Wall Street Journal reports. Diners in the glass restaurant will enjoy views of the Hudson, the city, and a neighboring boathouse/kayak launch. Pier 26 used to dock large passenger ships in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It's being redeveloped as part of a plan to turn four miles of waterfront into public space. Clarkson University's Beacon Institute for Rivers will develop an estuarium on Pier 26 to study the Hudson's ecology. City Vineyard will open in May 2016. [WSJ]
