Amazon is once again using its hometown as a lab to test out new store ideas. This time, Seattle residents will get to try the firm’s drive-up grocery store concept.
Building upon the idea of Amazon Go’s cashier-free store, these new stores are little more than a set of parking stalls next to some storage space. When they open, customers will be able to order items online, select a time to pick them up and then pull into an arranged space while employees load up their car, the New York Times reports.
Amazon is building two locations in Seattle. Experts said Amazon’s push deeper into brick-and-mortar is to capture sales in markets, like groceries, that are not likely to move entirely online.
