Retailers Can’t Rely On Black Friday Anymore

Black Friday, traditionally the largest sales day of the year, is losing its luster as a shopping holiday and is starting to morph into a month-long event.

Every year retailers have pushed deals earlier and earlier into the morning, while moving promotions online, and analysts say these decisions have destroyed Black Friday’s dominance, RetailDive reports. This year Black Friday isn’t expected to be the biggest sales day of the year, it’s not even expected to be the second-biggest but will occupy third place, according to RetailNext data.

This signals a change in the holiday season, and retailers will have to meet the omnichannel needs of consumers from now until the end of the year without the help of Black Friday. [RD]
