A formerly dormant terminal turned luxury hotel may have travelers at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport soon hoping for a long layover.

The 505-room TWA Hotel is part of the rehabilitation of JFK's iconic TWA Flight Center, which sat unused for more than 15 years. Key features and amenities include a restaurant built inside a refurbished TWA jet, 50K SF of conference room and events space, a gym, a TWA-themed museum, an observation deck and a rooftop pool, Bloomberg reports.

MCR Development, the seventh-largest hotel owner-operator in the U.S., has made it clear that it has not forgotten about guest comfort. The firm has added qualities such as windows that are said to be even more soundproof than the standard triple-paned, potentially making it one of the world’s quietest hotels.

Much of the lodge will pay tribute to its past with one lobby featuring its original sunken lounge as well as its red airport seats and white, penny-tiled booths.

Eight bars and six restaurants will be situated around the perimeter of the lobby, which will be accessible through the two original tubes that connected it to JFK’s Terminal 5.

Even the terminal’s flight boards will get an upgrade and will now be controlled by an app that will display custom messages for incoming visitors.

Hotel construction is slated to be complete by late 2018.
