Funky Ways To Draw Tenants

We've seen some wacky ways landlords attract tenants, but this is a new one: Kilroy hired Sky Design to brand 100 First Plaza to speed up the leasing process via playful illustration and pops of color. (Because why hand out boring brochures about a space when you can blow up the stats on the wall?)

Life-size people figures help potential tenants visualize how the space can be utilized. (Or what the building might look like if it was haunted.) Sky Design was established in 1990 as an offshoot of the national architecture and interiors firm ASD to provide signage, graphics, branding, and wayfinding services. One unique rebranding project underway is for Hooters. A S.F. office was just created to better serve West Coast clients.

Anna Lai, an environmental graphics designer, is one of Sky's first local hires. We caught up with her at New Tree Cafe, where she showed us a recent signage project she worked on for the Stanford Hospital & Clinics parking garage in Palo Alto. She points out that devising the right wayfinding elements can mean life or death when it comes to hospitals. In casinos or malls, however, it's all about making the visitor wander.
