Bisnow Managing Editor Catie Dixon was elected president of the National Association of Real Estate Editors for its 91st year Friday night at the organization’s fall summit in San Francisco. Dixon, who has been with Bisnow since 2009, previously served as vice president of the journalism organization.

She succeeds outgoing NAREE President Beth DeCarbo of The Wall Street Journal and is the first Bisnow journalist to oversee the organization.

“I am honored to lead NAREE and support its mission of fostering excellence in journalism,” Dixon said. “As journalists increasingly face distrust from readers and shrinking newsrooms, NAREE strives to give them the tools to sharpen their skills, maintain their credibility and write articles that matter. It is a privilege and a great responsibility to uphold this tradition, and I do not take it lightly.”

Bisnow CEO Will Friend, who has known Dixon since the early days of the company, said he is thrilled for his longtime colleague and friend.

"What an incredible privilege it has been to watch her become the journalist and woman she is today," Friend said. "All of us at Bisnow are immensely proud of her, and we are lucky to have her on our team."

NAREE was founded in 1929 and past leadership has included reporters and editors from the New York Times, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. The organization’s membership includes journalists who cover commercial and residential real estate.

Dixon started at Bisnow in 2009 as a Houston reporter and eventually served as the central U.S. editor before taking her current role as managing editor, overseeing Bisnow’s domestic and international publications. She joined NAREE in 2014 and has previously served on the board, as an active director and as vice president. She has led a team of Bisnow reporters in recent years to win several journalism awards from the organization.
