World's 100th Supertall Becomes Tallest Multifamily Building In History

There are now officially 100 supertall (300-plus-meter) skyscrapers in the world with the completion of 432 Park Ave in New York City. The total number of supertalls has doubled super-fast, ballooning from 50 to 100 in just five years, whereas the first 50 supertalls took 80 years to complete.

Supertall buildings are the in thing in the construction world, and while Asia and the Middle East are dominating the market (Dubai's in the lead at 18), New York is still top dog in the Americas. This most recent completion will be the city’s seventh, giving the Big Apple the second-highest number of supertall skyscrapers in the world.

At 425.5 meters and a 1:15 slenderness ratio, it's the tallest all-residential building in the world and the 14th-tallest overall, and typifies the “superslim” typology made possible by improved lateral resistance technology.

Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat data shows there are well over 100 supertall skyscrapers scheduled to be completed in the next five to six years, including Jeddah Tower, which will become the world’s tallest building and the first kilometer-high building upon completion.
