Venture capital investment is heading toward another record year, and so far unicorns like Snapchat and Uber have gotten the most cash.
At mid-year venture capitalists have already thrown $40B into US startups, according to a report from PitchBook Data, Bloomberg reports. That puts venture capital investment on pace to match or exceed the $79B invested last year.
Most of that money has been going to unicorns—private companies valued at $1B or more—but there is still plenty of money up for grabs for smaller startups. Still, most of the investments are of the larger sort—66% of all venture capital invested this year has come in checks worth $25M or more. [Bloomberg]
