Why Nashville's An Emerging Tech Town

Nashville's known for its music and eds & meds but not as much as a tech hub. That's changing, according to a new report by CBRE, Scoring Tech Talent, with Nashville seeing rapid tech-talent growth as tech companies locate and expand here.

Over the last five years, Nasvhille's been No. 2 in the nation in the growth of tech talent, the report says, with the number of tech workers in the area up 67.9% as companies up their game in Nashville. (That's just behind Charlotte, the No. 1 tech market in that period.)

The trend is continuing. "In the last 24 months, Nashville has been one of the top cities in the country for tech businesses," CBRE's Sarah Pettigrew tells us.

"Just over a year ago, Nashville received its first direct flight to San Francisco; the accessibility this has given the city has been huge," Sarah adds. New tech firms are relocating to the market monthly, some of them eschewing higher-cost markets for the Athens of the South.

"In addition to accessibility, we also have a low cost of living and an educated talent pool," she says. "There are, after all, 18 colleges and universities located within the MSA, which is one of the many selling points for Nashville as a growing tech hub."
