A new office building aims to bring something different to South LA.

Known as the (W)rapper, intentionally spelled with parentheses, the 17-story building would go up at the corner of National and Jefferson boulevards and is being developed by Frederick and Laurie Samitaur Smith.

The building features steel bands wrapped around floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

No tenants have yet been named, but entertainment, tech and design firms are expected to move in, according to Laurie Samitaur Smith, the LA Times reports.

The building is designed by Eric Owen Moss Architects.

The name of the building derives from its steel bands and alludes to rap music.

Building permits for the project are expected to be finalized by the end of this year. It had been delayed given the difficulty getting it approved due to its unique design.

The groundbreaking could happen by the early part of next year. [LAT]
