The movie industry loves sequels, so why shouldn't Century City, which for years was known as a studio backlot? Now, the area is remaking itself with new residential, mixed-use and office space as it looks to become a true live/work/play environment. Among our speakers will be California Landmark president Ken Kahan, who tells us the firm is under construction on 10 estate homes in Century Woods, a residential enclave in Century City. It's been a long time since Century City saw any new single-family homes, and Ken hopes to complete the first phase of six by the end of August; the remaining four homes will be finished in 12 months.

On Wednesday night, the West LA Neighborhood Council voted to support another one of Ken's projects at 1947 Sawtelle (above) consisting of 72 apartments and 7,700 SF of ground-floor commercial. Additionally, he's under construction on R3, which will boast 67 apartments and 8k SF of creative office space when completed in 12 months in Marina del Rey's arts district. He also hopes to launch construction by year-end on 130 apartments and 15k SF of commercial, another project in the Marina arts district, with the same concept in mind: creative office "except that they have kitchens and baths."
