USC's McDonald Olympic Swim Stadium and Kennedy Aquatics Building, whichserved as an aquatics venue during the 1984 LA Summer Olympics, is getting a renovation and expansion. (Don't expand it too much, it's already a pain swimming that far.) Theproject will add 18k SF to the facility, bringing the Uytengsu Aquatic Center as it's now called to 85k SF with permanent seating for 1,500 spectators (expandable to 2,500). Bernards has been tapped as the general contractor. VP Jeff Bernards says the major challenge will be keeping existing facilities functional during construction, which is slated for completion in April 2014. The $12.5M project was designed by ELS Architecture and Urban Design.
