Data from Transport for London showed that the return to the office made a good start, but still has some way to go before approaching anything like pre-pandemic normality.

There were 3.59 million entries and exits on the Tube network on Monday,  the first day after schools returned and a date expected to herald the beginning of people coming back to central London offices, City A.M. reported.

That figure is the highest since last March, before the coronavirus pandemic took hold, TfL said. But it is about half the pre-pandemic average of 7.12 million entries and exits.

TfL data showed that bus and Tube journeys rose sharply between Monday and the same day last week. They also rose significantly from Monday to Tuesday this week.

The number of Tube journeys this Tuesday rose 33% compared to the same day last week and the number of bus journeys rose 73%.

TfL said it expected the number of journeys to keep rising this month. The question for office owners is where does the figure top out.
