There is a lot of chat about the use of drones in property at the moment — Amazon delivery, site viewings, data collection.

But drone racing is a new one for the sector.

Two developers have put on the first-ever drone race in a U.K. office building. The 240K SF Charter Building in West London, being developed by Brockton Capital and Landid, this month hosted around 30 of the U.K.’s best drone pilots to battle it out. After a series of knockout races it came down to a grand finale, crowning Daniel Peters (DaWeapon) as champion of #TheCharterProject contest.

The pop-up event occurred weeks before the U.K.’s first Drone Racing League race, which will be held at Alexandra Palace later this month. Many of the Charter Project's pilots will also be competing.

“While I was a little nervous at first about the idea of having drones buzzing about the place, the pilots are able to control these things with amazing precision and at great speed. The race was a huge success and it was great to get the local community in the building," Landid director Chris Hiatt said. "The Charter Building is an innovative design-led office space — we have created a workspace unlike anything else in Uxbridge and we brought that spirit of creativity and innovation to this event.”

Landid, Brockton and other property experts will be discussing innovations like these at London's Hottest Areas Event 23 June. Register here.
