Smoothie King is looking to make moves in Houston's hot retail market. The company is planning 15 new franchises in the area, adding to the chain's roughly 130 current Texas locations. Franchise development manager Steve Shields said Texas is one of the brand's better markets. In fact, the top franchisee, Dave McMahon, is based in Houston, according to the Houston Chronicle. While it's been difficult for many retailers to find space in Houston's hotly contested market, Smoothie King is confident because the stores' footprints are small, usually between 1k and 1,200 SF. [Chron]
