Farm Stores, a chain of drive-thru grocery stores, is making its first foray out of Florida in Houston. The company, which operates 40 stores in Florida, is in talks to lease space at the intersection of Greenhouse and Morton roads in Katy, reports the Houston Business Journal. Unlike the grocery titans battling to be king of the Houston hill, Farm Stores storefronts are only around 600 SF.
Farm Stores focuses on the basics like baked breads, prepared meals, milk, diapers, coffee, ice cream and cleaning supplies. The average waiting time at a Farm Stores drive-thru window is around two minutes, Farm Stores' Robert Betts said, and each store typically services around 1,500 rooftops in any given area.
Curbside pickup is the latest front in the Houston grocery wars. HEB, Kroger and Wal-Mart have all debuted their version of the service in the past year. [HBJ]
