The annual MS 150 is a mainstay in Houston—13,000 bicyclists ride from Houston to Austin in a grueling two-day ride to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The local commercial real estate community always has a strong showing. Above, EE Reed’s Troy Hoffart and Patti Miller are on the Houston Builders’ 100-person team of architects, engineers and contractors.

Patti has led the Houston Builders team for the past few years, but is handing off the reins to DLR Group’s Filo Castore. Filo had a special riding buddy; his daughter Sofia is 12 this year, just old enough to take part for the first time (and she wasn’t just an honorary member—she raised $720 for the cause). Filo just started at DLR Group, a national architecture firm that’s expanding to Houston.

Three generations of Tribbles rode together—Tribble & Associates’ Tom Tribble, his daughter Sarah, and his father Jay. Jay started the Houston Builders team 14 years ago. Since then, the team has raised $1.5M for MS research.

GRI Commercial Real Estate president Thompson Green, biking for Team NOV, had quite the cheering squad waiting for him at the finish line. It’s his fourth year taking part, and in that time he has proudly raised over $12,500, biked 582 miles (a 36-hour endeavor), and burned almost 31,000 calories. Stay out of his way; his top speed is 44 mph.

This year, the first day was canceled (the halfway point campsite was flooded out), but the MS Society bused participants from Houston to La Grange on Sunday morning to do the second leg of the ride. (Some of the Houston Builders team still biked the first day and found another place to stay.)
