Congrats to WHR, which won best of show and best runway performance in the 2015 IIDA Product Runway Friday night! 21 teams (mostly architects) took part in this year’s competition to build a runway-caliber outfit out of interior design materials. Each one was assigned a color theme, an emotion, one hard material, and one soft material (combined they had to make up 80% of the final garment). They had 12 weeks to complete the garment and came together on Friday for a glamorous strut down the catwalk. Pictured is Kirksey’s entry modeled by interior designer Kate Sharp—the team won best craftsmanship for its daring periwinkle themed dress. The team spent 60 hours braiding and sewing 350 feet of carpet yarn through 928 holes in the Corian skirt. It took all three of Kate's team members to get her into the skirt.

Gensler won most sustainable garment for its “tranquil white” entry. Tatiana Galitzine modeled the dress for her teammates, Elizabeth Braun, Rebecca De La Torre, Katie Palazzo, Jared Holt and Ryne Diaz. The pros spent two months planning and fundraising (raising more than $5k for the event) and then two weeks to construct the garment, which is mostly made up of carpet and linoleum tiles. Other Product Runway winners are HOK (most wearable), PDR (best use of color), Kathy Andrew Interiors (best new entry), HCC (best student entry), ZCA (second place), PBK (most philanthropic and crowd favorite, they were named third place).
