Tilman Fertitta's Ultra-Mixed-Use Tower Breaks Ground

Work is underway on Houston's first vertical mixed-use tower that combines hotel, office, residential, retail and restaurant uses all under one 650k SF roof.

The Post Oak is being developed by Tilman Fertitta, billionaire CEO of Landry's. It's a 35-story, 650k SF tower featuring 240 luxury hotel rooms, 120k SF of boutique office and 22 apartments. It'll include a pool, two-story spa and salon, and multiple signature restaurant and retail offerings. The office space will span 11 stories and will be low density. Tenants will benefit from some of the hotel services, including 24-hour catering and room service, corporate concierge and transportation services. The Post Oak will have an open plaza with outdoor dining patios and landscaped pedestrian areas; Tilman is dropping $1M to transplant large specimen oak trees to the site—10 acres along West Loop South in the Galleria. (It's right by Landry's HQ, which Tilman says allows him to be intimately involved in the planning and development.)

Adjacent to the tower, Tilman's building a 30k SF ballroom and conference center. It'll include a 16k SF main ballroom, which will be the largest in the area and will feature unique decorations: Post Oak Motor Cars will display Bentley and Rolls-Royce cars in one of the pre-function areas. Ladies will get their own space as well in the form of a women's lounge with bridal area and private outdoor terrace. Two restaurants have already signed on for 10k SF apiece: Mastro's Steakhouse will open its first Texas location in spring 2017, and Houston institution Willie G's is relocating there. The Post Oak, master designed by Gensler and built by Tellepsen, will deliver in fall 2017.
