La Porte may soon see a vast new mixed-use development complex including brownstone-style townhomes, a conference center, 114-room hotel, and retail and office space.
But this isn't an ordinary development complex. Country music legend Mickey Gilley has agreed to license his name to the new restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue that will be part a proposed new project. The original Gilly’s opened in Pasadena in 1980 and was used as a location in the movie Urban Cowboy.
The development will be named La Porte Town Center and carries a $55M price tag, according to the Houston Chronicle. Led by Turfway FEC's David Miles, the proposed 20-acre tract is off Highway 146, just north of Wharton Weems Boulevard, near the Bay Forest Golf Club.
The project is forecasted to break ground in May or June 2017. [Chron]
