Houston has nearly 17,500 hotel rooms in various stages of the development pipeline, second only to NYC (30,000 rooms). The two metros alone constitute more than 10% of hotel development planned in the US, according to the latest STR Pipeline Report. Houston has about 6,200 rooms in the dirt now (of 126,000 nationwide), an incredible 98% year-over-year increase. STR SVP Bobby Bowers is concerned by the stat, Hotel News Now reports—a lot of supply doesn't couple well with lowered oil prices. [HNN]
