A new app to help with car pooling for electric cars and electric bikes could be coming to Dublin's office districts.

Dublin City Council and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland will pilot a smart mobility hub with the aim of providing shared mobility options for staff through integration of e-cars, e-bikes and push bikes.

“Dublin City Council, with the support of SEAI, are seeking innovative approaches and new business models to workplace mobility that can increase the use of cleaner vehicles for site visits and workplace meetings, using shared e-bike and e-car schemes," Dublin City Council Smart City Planning Chris Garde said, according to Smart Dublin. "This will help to reduce traffic congestion, air pollution and promotion of more sustainable outcomes.”

The aim of the scheme is to streamline existing shared e-cars and vans that are cumbersome to book and underutilised, make it possible to integrate e-car and e-bike use with smartphone apps, resolve insurance issues and encourage vehicle hiring solutions.

It will also "encourage a gamification and a reward-based model approach to increase staff adoption," according to Smart Dublin documents.
