Colorado contractors report considerable trouble in filling skilled construction positions, according to the Associated General Contractors of America's 2016 Workforce Survey. Fully 89% of respondents report "having a hard time filling some hourly craft positions." In particular, all of those contractors surveyed said they were having a hard time hiring qualified carpenters.
Concrete workers were almost as tough to find: 88% said they were having trouble finding them, the survey found. Three-quarters of contractors are having trouble finding electricians. The outlook isn't much better, either: 63% expect to have a hard time filling those jobs next year. When assessing the adequacy of the local pipeline for supplying well-trained craft personnel, 49% said it was "poor" and only 36% said "fair."
